Our First Week on The Four Hour Body Diet

Husband and I spend a lot of time talking about food. We like food. We don’t always eat the “right” foods, but we eat well. Like many people, we pay less attention to what we eat during the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas than we should. While I never read his first book, I knew that The 4-Hour Body by Tim Ferriss was coming out and bought it for husband for Christmas.

In the book, Ferriss details a diet that was not dissimilar to our usual one. We decided to give it a shot and started it on January 3. Some of our meals this week weren’t the best in my repertoire, but we pushed through and today is our cheat day. After my run this morning, we’re headed to a local bakery for pastries before hitting the restaurant next door for a decadent brunch.

I don’t have a lot of weight to lose (some might argue I don’t have any) and haven’t talked about my adventures in weight loss since the beginning of this blog. My weight has generally held steady, but I quickly got tired of counting calories (as I always do).

We’ll see how long The Four Hour Body Diet lasts. I’m pleased with my first week results, but am curious if I can sustain it over the next month once school begins (late January).

Oh, la la.

I recently had the opportunity to go to Paris for the weekend.

One of my coworkers was confused. “Why did you go to Paris, Texas?

No, honey. Paris, France.

When the opportunity presented itself, we freaked out a bit. The plane ticket wasn’t in our budget and I really did not have the leave time from work. After shifting a few things around, we were able to make it happen and off I went.

It’s been many years since I was fortunate enough to go to Europe. I was reminded of how much I like Europe. The winding streets, old buildings, and fantastic food do me in every time.

The weather was beautiful and I walked more in 48 hours than I had in the 48 days prior.

Also, don’t be surprised if you come to my home in the next few months and discover that we’ve acquired an espresso machine. I fell in love with café au lait and while I already loved red wine, I’m not jealous of the really inexpensive, but good bottles we picked up at the corner store.

I don’t regret any of it. Not the flight there or back. Not the time away from work. Not the stress I experienced in trying to cram my school work in while sitting on the bed in the hotel room with a glass of wine and hunk of cheese on a plate next to me.

I got to experience a city I had not yet visited. Add another push-pin to the map.

When can I do that again?

Last summer, hubs and I were out with friends at a DC restaurant that we love, but unfortunately do not visit enough. They told us about roasts at Poste where an animal is spit roasted over an open wood fire for a group seated outside in the chef’s garden. The idea sounded wonderful and we agreed that we should get a group together to do it.

Life happened and we were unable to pull it off last summer.

About a month ago, the topic came up again and we seized upon the opportunity.
