Seeing the Sights

2013-08-31 14.28.09On our holiday weekend, we knew we’d need to spend Monday finishing up a few administrative things, we we hightailed it out of our gray and cloudy town Saturday morning for the night. Sydney’s only about three hours a way and we were looking forward to cheap(er) beer, warmth and sun, and seeing a new city.

Our accommodation destination was the Lord Nelson Brewery Hotel. Husband picked it out of our Lonely Planet Australia book and we were lucky they had an ensuite room available for the night. We arrived around 1 PM after stopping into a motorcycle shop to view the beautiful Triumph bikes, including the one husband wants to buy. After we checked in at the bar (because the office is closed on Saturdays) we each enjoyed a pint and a burger. Yay beer!

After lunch, we started walking and quickly rounded the corner to see the Sydney Harbor Bridge and the Opera House. It was incredibly cool and odd to be so close to a building that is recognized worldwide as SYDNEY. We had to back track to the hotel to repark the car, but quickly doubled back to the Opera House and spent the rest of the afternoon sitting at the Opera Kitchen enjoying a few drinks and people watching.

As the sun set, we were getting chilled and relocated to a Belgian bar a few blocks away. Nothing on the menu sounded lovely for dinner, so after our Leffe and pork belly bites, we departed for the Lord Nelson for dinner, more pints, and slumber.

Morning came all too quickly. Quick shower. Continental breakfast. Departure for home to catch the tail end of the UGA versus Clemson game (which we’re not going to talk about here) on TV.

On the trip home, we chuckled about how our first visit to Sydney wasn’t too exciting. If one were to compare what (little) we saw with guidebooks, they’d be disappointed. That being said, the trip was perfect for us. We did exactly what we wanted to do and know that we’ll be going back (soon).
