Hang onto your hat!

[This is a heavily edited version of the unposted draft I wrote when I got home from work on Friday, February 18, 2011. I waited a few days for my anger to subside, am editing, and posting it today (2/21/11). If you’ve talked to me in real life since Friday, thank you for your kind words.]

I’ve long joked that there are two stable industries in this town: working for the federal government and working for a labor union. Well, the joke’s on me this time. It’s gonna be a bumpy ride.

This morning at work, I found out that my job is being eliminated effective April 30. For a number of reasons–none related to my professional performance–my position and about eight others within the organization are being eliminated. My anger, frustration, and sadness are overwhelming.

So…I’m looking for a job. I’ve been covertly looking for a while, but was being very selective. Now, I’m open to considering almost anything (beggars can’t be choosy) and can do this out in the open.

This door is closing.

A new one is opening.

I’m scared and excited.

As such, my already infrequent postings here will probably go away for now. Whatever free time I had before is being reallocated toward the job search. If you have any leads on an ID job or high level EA position in the DC area, DM me on Twitter or post a comment below.

That is so scary! BUT – such an opportunity, right? (That’s what I would be repeating to myself frequently, in between gulps of wine.)

Good luck w/ the job search & finding your niche in the ID world! I will send good thoughts your way.

That is precisely what I keep telling myself. 🙂 Thanks!
